Thoughts From Your Host…

I feel as though I haven’t properly talked about my guests in a while, so please indulge me.

This podcast succeeds because of the guests I bring in to discuss the films with me. Whenever I plan a discussion, I only map out the roughest of talking points because I want to allow my guests the most opportunity to take the discussion where they want to take it. That’s allowed conversations to lean in directions that are political, personal, intimate, insightful, and more.

I set ’em up, but my guests always knock ’em down … or better yet, my guests reset ’em and then knock ’em down.

The people are a wide cross-section. Some who do this for me are sometimes longtime friends who aren’t exactly “film nerds”. Some are other podcasters and bloggers I am lucky enough to call close friends after we met by way of these foolish shenanigans. Others still are people I barely know, but somehow agreed to sit down with me, break bread and record a conversation for posterity.

I am grateful for all of them; for what they have brought to this show and what they have brought to my evolution as a human being.

Two different people played a big part in making this episode happen – one person who couldn’t be here but turned things upside-down in the hopes of making it, and another who stepped-in at the drop of a hat. Both of them are amazing people, wonderful guests, and I’m lucky to be able to call both my friends.

As I approach my 250th Matineecast, I raise a glass to my guests.

I thank all of the people who have joined me, and those who wanted to but couldn’t, I the few that are part of “lost episodes”, and the ones who have been by ten times or more. I thank the ones who drop by once or twice a year, and the ones I haven’t brought back in an embarrassingly long time. I thank the people who podcast all the damned time, and the ones who never have before but gave it a go because I ask.

These people have all made this show what it is. They all made me a better podcaster, and a better man.

Cheers.
