As I consume endless notes, audio bits, and video bits coming out of Sundance, I’m reminded of the one of very best things about going to a film festival: You get the chance to champion something great. You get that rare chance to spread the word about a film that’s wonderful, fun, and memorable. It’s not boasting – not about saying “I saw that six months ago”, it’s planting a seed in people’s ear and tipping them off.

Back in September, I had such a moment, and now that seed is ready to bloom. Having seen this film, I can tell you that it’s quite amusing and endearing…and it could make your springtime moviegoing a bit brighter.

Check it out, won’t you?

  1. Wow Susan Sarandon looks great. It’s nice to see the hilarious Judy Greer try a dramatic part. Loved her on Arrested Development. I’ve been fan of Jason Segel’s since Freaks and Geeks. His Dracula puppet rock musical in Forgetting Sarah Marshall was classic. I haven’t seen the other Duplass’s movies. I think the mumblecore genre, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumblecoregenre, is a bit precious to me so I’ve been put off by that a little. That said I’ll probably check out this movie. Looks pretty good.

    1. Without giving too much away, I noticed that this movie felt less mumblecore than flicks like CYRUS or PLEASE GIVE. That’s not to say that it goes over into studio-backed zaniness, just that it feels a bit more cohesive. The other good thing is that everybody in the cast brings their A game to the film.

Anxious to hear what you think once it plays!

  2. How exciting! I saw the trailer on another blog and got excited about it. Glad to hear that you really enjoyed it, Ryan! I’m a big fan of Jason Segel, so I’m definitely going to see this one 🙂

    1. One thing I liked a lot about Segel in this film is that he’s a bit more calm. As much as I get a laugh from “Crazy Segal”, I think he’s at his funniest when he dials it back.

Hope you dig it when it drops next month!
