What’s My Name Again?

So there was me and my good friend Finn, sitting in a jammed theatre waiting for QUANTUM OF SOLACE to begin. He mentioned to me that there didn’t seem to be much coming out that looked too good…that it might indeed be a pretty dull year-end.

I disagreed, but in a moment that would make Fogetful Jones proud, completely blanked on many of the movies coming up that I want to see. So for you Finn, and for anyone else who might want to keep an eye on what the year still has left to offer, here are the movies I’m still looking most forward to this year, with links to each film’s website.

  1. Some of those films are appealing to me. I think I’ve maybe avoided a lot of the campaigns (whether I tried, or not is the real question), so I haven’t really noticed the Christmas rush of movies. I guess the lack of a Potter or Rings movie, or something else decidedly “wintery” has led me to believe everything is quiet on the film front for the holidays.

However, your list proves me wrong. Frost vs. Nixon, Seven Pounds and The Spirit rank high. Although, I am concerned about The Day The Earth Stood Still. The original was very cerebral, and quite dark, but it didn’t rely on cutting edge SFX to convey it’s message. This one seems like it’s going for the bigger bang, and I feel that will be it’s failing. So rare are remakes better than the original (Ocean’s Eleven springs to mind… I love that film), that I’d hazard a guess that two thirds are poorly made or just poorly received (Psycho, War of the Worlds, The Ladykillers). So I’m hesitant on spending my $12.50 on a remake.

Just my thoughts though. If you need someone to go see it with, I might be persuaded…

  2. Thats a mighty fine list. I cant wait for MILK, Frost/Nixon, The Spirit and more. Im also alittle worried about The Day The Earth Stood Still. The remake doesnt look anything like the original which I really loved.
