The Most Wonderful Time of The Year (Thoughts on TIFF Day 1)

…yeah, actually I think for me The Toronto International Film Festival is in fact more fun than Christmas. It all starts tonight for me with my first screening of $9.99 at AMC.

So as TIFF goes along, I’ll be putting up two types of posts. I will, of course, be posting reactions to the movies I see…reactions, not reviews. I don’t write full on reviews for two reasons. For starters, there just isn’t enough time in the day. And for seconds, I like to stew on a movie for a little bit before I ramble about it full-on. Like I mentioned back in June, I think too much of the good and bad press that comes out of film festivals is media rushing out opinions.

Along with the reactions, I’ll be posting daily updates of my comings and goings around town…things I see, people I meet, buzz I hear. If you can’t enjoy the fest with me, I can at least try to make it seem like you were here! I also like to sign off my posts with three points:

“Do I Need a Coat?” (Detailing the day’s weather for those who are reading while fest’ing)

“Hey, Isn’t That…?” (Rhyming off the notable names and faces I’d seen that day)

“Dude, You Gotta Try This” (Suggesting tasty treats to try in between movies)

Just ten and a half hours ’til the ride begins!

  1. Have fun for all of us stateside, man. I’m going to have to avoid most of your reactions/reviews for fear of spoilers or expectations, but I’m still gonna be checking out what you see.

I love that you’re not taking this opp for granted, by the way.

  2. I hear you…I find myself cringing when I call my writing “reviews.” Much of it is too immediate to be a full review and not well-rounded; often I’ll ignore many aspects in favor of one that interests me. Yet reaction seems too broad.

We bloggers should coin a new term for this sort of response. But I don’t know what it is.
