The End is The Beginning is The End

Looking out on to my balcony at the sight of festive lights twinkling on a stormy night, I’m of course reminded of the fact that the year is rapidly drawing to a close. While this means a lighter wallet, and a busier schedule, it also makes the movie geek in me joyful since it’s a sign that awards season is on its way (The National Board of Review Awards gets the ball rolling for us this Thursday).

This year, I’m a bit more curious than most for two reasons. One, I believe that the field for who will win what is wide open, which of course makes things far more interesting for Oscar geeks like me. Secondly, because I believe that a good chunk of the year’s best films are still to come (THE WRESTLER, BENJAMIN BUTTON, FROST/NIXON, to name a few).

So let the arguments begin, The Oscar race begins this week!

In Other News…

WANTED, STEP BROTHERS, and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN hit DVD shelves tomorrow.

In theatres, the love for vampires was short-lived as FOUR CHRISTMASES finished atop the box office. (THR)

Set photos from Michael Mann’s next film PUBLIC ENEMIES (starring Christian Bale and Johnny Depp) have surfaced online (EMP)

And don’t look now, but an actors guild strike is still a very real possibility (VAR)

  1. Are you joking? If someone were to get me STEP BROTHERS for Christmas, I’d be tempted to shove seven swans a-swimmin’ where the sun don’t shine!

There *are* DVD’s I want of course, but I wouldn’t want to bore the precious few readers I have with a petty want list.

    …That’s what co-workers are for 😉

  2. They were shooting ‘Public Enemies’ across the street from my Grandfather’s house – and I think he said he snuck by and took some pictures of downtown in 20’s garb – I’ll have to check with him and maybe you can have an “exclusive”…
