21 Thoughts on TIFF 2010

  • 22 films in 11 days – ya gotta love it.
  • THE KING’S SPEECH – a film I didn’t see – won the audience choice award this year.
  • As for my favorites, BLACK SWAN, 127 HOURS, and CHICO & RITA are the ones that’ll stick with me.
  • I can’t remember the last time I saw Lady Hatter so little. I sure did miss her.
  • BUNRAKU earns the annual “Film That Sailed Past Hatter Award”.
  • My photo-taking was way down this year. Guess that’s what happens when they make the star-studded events a higher-priced ticket.
  • I’m gonna miss the cinematic insanity of films like BALADA TRISTE and I SAW THE DEVIL
  • Newfound respect for Simon & Jo. Don’t know how you guys do such a great job of those podcasts on the fly – I got nervous as hell!
  • Lordy did the last weekend ever feel like everyone had already checked out.
  • This festival also had me walking out of only my second film in the nine years I’ve been going to TIFF
  • Screenings of LET ME IN were low attended. Make of that what you will.
  • Quick show of hands – who’s actually sick of hearing about TIFF on The Matinee?
  • Every year I come away feeling like there were half a dozen better film selections than those I picked.
  • Pretty sure the “Most Memorable Scene” award goes to the finale of TAMARA DREWE
  • Gotta love handing a stranger our business card and hearing them say “Hey, I’ve read your site”.
  • It was a welcome switch knowing so many friends doing TIFF as well.
  • I also made a few new friends during the festival, so hello to you fine folks if you’re new readers to the site.
  • I’m now looking forward to getting to see The Lightbox – a brand new Toronto film venue unveiled during TIFF but far too busy for me to get to.
  • Duelling Michael Caines!!!
  • Y’all have no clue how much I’m looking forward to a home cooked meal.
  • Thank you all so much for reading about my experiences over the last week. Perhaps some of y’all will come join me next year!
