My Hometown (CHLOE Trailer)

After a seemingly endless run of written pieces, I can’t tell you how much joy it brings me to post a trailer…or as I call it, “phoning it in”.

Today’s flick is hitting theatres very soon. “Soon” is as quickly as next week for some, but an additional week for me. I find this fact especially strange, given that it’s not only a Canadian film, but one that was filmed and is set in my hometown!

ACtually, that greenhouse that they show in Alan Gardens was the scene of my third date with Lady Hatter. Just sayin’.

  1. I've seen this trailer before. It intrigues me.
Isn't if fun when you recognize filming locations? I love it when that happens. In Julie and Julia a lot of the Julie scenes take place pretty much where we live atm.
The greenhouse looks like a beautiful place for a date 🙂

  2. It came out here last week on a very limited release. I saw it on Tuesday. Whilst it has had mixed reviews in the press, I actually enjoyed it. My review is scheduled to auto-publish at midnight tonight (GMT) here is the link if anyone is interested: http://wp.me/prVbF-13A

I mention the Toronto setting in the review. A question for hatter. There is a local band featured in the movie who sound quite good called Raised by Swans, do you know them?

  3. @ Mike Lippert (who commented, but his comment got eaten by Blogger)… I'm pretty sure this will play in more theatres than ADORATION…at least, I certainly hope it will!

@ Vanessa… What makes this trailer fun isn't just that I recognize the locations, but that in this story Toronto will be playing itself. You hear Seyfried say "I met him at Alan Gardens…", and the spot they show actually is Alan Gardens.

And indeed, it is quite a beautiful place for a date.

@ Anh Koi Do… It's Atom Egoyan, so I'd be surprised if it doesn't make it to most major Canadian markets. Then again, I've been wrong before.

@ Number Six… I am certainly looking forward to reading your thoughts, but I usually wait until after I've written my own. 3/26 can't come soon enough.

Speaking of which, why is it that you Brits get a three week head start on a homegrown story?? That doesn't seem fair to me!

As for The Swans, I hadn't heard of them, but it'd appear as though they are indeed a real band. Looks like tonight I'll have to fire up iTunes and give 'em a listen!

  4. I love Toronto so I'm excited to see a story actually set there. Seems like things are always filmed there as a stand-in for some other city – like Toronto is a destination in and of itself!?

  5. Toronto always looks so nice on film.

The only two films that were made in my hometown were Red Dragon & For Richer or Poorer and both took place at the same farmhouse.

  6. Ha, that's awesome that you had a date at that location. It's always such a cool feeling to see places you've been before on the big screen. I know, for me, the one that comes to mind immediately for Chicago is The Dark Knight.

  7. @ Daniel… My favorite was the crummy Stalone movie DRIVEN where Toronto played itself, but then subbed in for Chicago, Munich, and Tokyo.

@ Fitz… Whereabouts are you from?

@ Danny… Ah yes, Chicago. If you have a moment, I vote you come back to almost the very beginning of this blog and give this post. a read.

  8. I still find it strange to hear 'thriller / intrigue' music in places like … Cafe Diplimatico… just .. doesn't connect. But I love how it so set in Toronto. Gotta love love for the T-Dot!

That's so cute that Alan Gardens was your & Lady Hatter's 3rd date! I haven't been there since art school – I had a great realization there of understanding the 'draw what you see, not what you think you see' there. Pretty awesome.

  9. That's a really terrific post. The Fugitive is one of those movies that I've seen handfuls of times, but it never gets old. In that same category is Ferris Bueller, another one of your picks.

The Untouchables was also an awesome film. I've yet to see High Fidelity, and I saw the Blues Brothers so long ago that I hardly remember it.

You brought up an interesting point about how the film Chicago was actually shot in Toronto. Makes me think of how many films shoot in one place, but play out their story in another. One that comes to mind immediately is The Proposal, as I recently read an article which informed me that the portion of the film that supposedly takes place in Alaska was actually shot in Massachusetts.

  10. @ Shannon… i'll never look at brunch in Diplimatico the same way. And Alan Gardens will always have a special place in my heart. Lady Hatter used to live nearby, so it was the spot of a good handful of afternoons for us.

@ Danny… Stop reading right this moment, and get your hands on a copy of HIGH FIDELITY.

@ Fitz… I vote you do a post about movies shot in Reno!
