007 news today as the theme song for the 22nd Bond movie, QUANTUM OF SOLACE, leaked online yesterday.
I’m as big a Bond fan as there is, but the songs have always left me rather amused – mostly because I find more often than not, that they don’t hold up very well as a single (if they started playing while my iPod was set to shuffle – I’d likely press ‘skip’).
The new song “Another Way to Die” is written and performed by Alicia Keys and Jack White. After a listen or two, I find it falls into a category all its own: I like it very much as a song, but not as a James Bond theme. The grinding tempo doesn’t make me think of martinis, girls, and guns. It makes me think of badasses walking in slo-mo through a Guy Ritchie movie (maybe ROCKNROLLA should have scooped it for its soundtrack).
A great tune though, and certainly better than some of the melodramatic slop that’s been served up in the past…I’m looking at you Garbage!

wow, good find. I just listened to it and I reallllly dont like it. It doesnt sound like a Bond theme. I already didnt like the one they used for Casino Royale because it didnt sound like a Bond theme at all, but this new one sounds even worse. I cant believe their actually going to use this a theme song for the next Bond movie.
