I was getting a tad antsy over the last day or two…mostly due to the usual pre-festival jitters of handing over a my selections to be processed. Ever let go of a feather on a windy day? That’s about the same sort of feeling as turning in one’s TIFF envelope. We were actually in a primo spot this year for the processing, but the still didn’t help calm the nerves.

As it turns out, my nervousness was largely unwarranted as I got 21 of my 23 selections (Two films I mentioned last week – A DANGEROUS METHOD and THE SKIN I LIVE IN are no-go’s…for now). But for the curious, here is my complete slate…

UP ON POPPY HILL

25 Replies to “I’ll Be Seeing You (My 2011 TIFF Schedule)

  1. Still waiting to find out what films I got into. Keyhole, Up On Poppy Hill, and Crazy Horse were on my list as well. Keyhole was 1st choice pick and the other two are 2nd choice selections.

Really happy to see Stillman making movies again! I contemplated the Winterbottom film but it did not fit into the schedule I am attempting this year. I need to start prepping my Countdown To/TIFF coverage this weekend. Time is flying by so quickly.

    1. Between CODE 46 and THE TRIP, I have had great experiences with Winterbottom at TIFF. That one was a no-brainer. Looks like it’ll be the film Lindsay and I end the whole she-bang with.

Make sure to post your slate when it comes in.

      1. I had good TIFF experiences with Code 46 and The Trip as well. I also really liked Genova when I saw it at the fest a few years back. I am surprised it did not get a wider release.

Forgot to mention earlier, really looking forward to Shame. I hope it gets a decent release despite its “hard to sell to the masses” subject matter.

          1. I need to exchange one extra ticket and for another film. The current possibilities include: Dark Horse (love Solondz and saw his last to films at TIFF), Samsara, Elles, Hotel Swooni, Hick, etc. It all depends on what is still available. Fortunately I have a lot of room on Sunday to play with.

Anyways, my schedule is up on TIFFR under the blog name. The films I am seeing will also be posted on my site tomorrow. I will update both (hopefully Friday night) when I figure out what the last film will be.

          2. I’ll check out your TIFFR and hopefully we have a few shows together. Also, hopefully I can bring you back on for some Podcast or even video material.

  2. That’s a pretty good lineup, especially The Ides of March, Shame and Martha May.

I’m kind of surprised to see Sleeping Beauty still making its rounds.

  3. I really ought to know more about these movies than I actually do. It’s a bit sad, but of the handful I am aware of, they do look like a solid, well rounded, selection for you to feast on.

    1. I wouldn’t say you should know more about them. I have a high profile screening or two in here (IDES OF MARCH obviously)…but in many cases they’re films that haven’t quite hit the radar just yet.

As an example SHAME (the film in the photo above) is the new one from HUNGER’s Steve McQueen. Ditto EXTRATERRESTRIAL is the new joint from the dude who made TIMECRIMES, Nacho Vigalondo.

When you have a few minutes, thumb through those links. Might pique your interest on films that are headed your way later this year!

  4. There’s an upcoming screening of Pearl Jam 20 coming to Atlanta later this fall that I hope to go to. Hopefully, with another film to see. Why Samara didn’t make the list, no time for a schedule or something?

    1. Ahhhh… You missed an ‘S’. I have a slight interest in SAMSARA, but it’s down a few pegs in terms of my overall wishlist. I have a few gaps to fill so it might still come into play.

  5. These are the films I’ll be seeing at TIFF11:
PINA, LE HAVRE, THE ARTIST, CHICKEN WITH PLUMS, MR. TREE, PEARL JAM TWENTY, WHERE DO WE GO NOW, JUAN OF THE DEAD, THE BROOKLYN BROTHERS BEAT THE BEST, EXTRATERRESTRIAL, SHAME, DAMSELS IN DISTRESS, BUTTER, JEFF WHO LIVES AT HOME, STARBUCK, HYSTERIA, HICK, PARADISE LOST 3: PURGATORY, FIRST POSITION, CRAZY HORSE, SMUGGLER, PAULL WILLIAMS STILL ALIVE and TRISHNA

I’m hoping to pick up a few more tickets along the way

  6. Looks like a good list. I just finished putting together my list of hopefuls. Once I have tickets in hand I will let you know if we have any in common. I feel like I will be spending a lot of time in the rush lines!

    1. I’m sure you’ll score lots of good stuff. Keep on touch as the show goes along and hopefully we can catch a screening together…or at least a cup of coffee.

  7. Hopefully, next year Andy and I will be in attendance – we’re trying to work something out so we both can go.

If so, that would be one fun festival – meeting all of you Toronto bloggers and such.

Lineup is pretty stacked my man – just attempt to keep what I said in mind: don’t stress yourself out too much. Have fun.

  8. Ok just got back from single ticket day and I got everything I asked for which wasn’t too much as I didn’t have as many vouchers and I was more generous with bringing people this year lol and a lot of what I want to see I will have to rush. Films we have in common – Union Square, Damsels in Distress and Violet and Daisy all of these I am seeing the first screenings. Also seeing Restless, Hysteria, Guilty and that is all I have tickets for now. That is all I can manage to type right now as it has been a long night!

    1. Rebecca, were you one of the people who camped out all night? I had some friends who did that. What time did you get there?

    2. Of those I think Violet & Daisy is the only one I’m catching the premiere, so we’ll rally up for that. Lookin’ forward dude – gotta go pick up my passes from the box office tomorrow.

  9. Lindsay, I was one of those crazy people that camped out. I was there at ten last night and it was busier than last year. Most people started showing up at the more reasonable hours of 3 and on. Ryan – I debated between the first and second screening of Damsels in Distress as I thought I would have more luck with a QandA at the second screening but it didn’t fit my schedule so I will curious to hear if they have on at your screening.
