Homecoming (Thoughts on TIFF Day 5)

This evening I felt a bit like the bee girl in that old Blind Melon video. You see, there are times where I feel like a big ‘ol geek rambling about on this amateur blog of mine…but at the very least, I know I’m not the only one of my kind.

Tonight A bunch of us movie bloggers got together for a little mid-TIFF meet-up. We spend many an hour reading each other’s writing anyway, so since we’re all in one city at one time, why not raise a glass and catch up right? Perhaps even make a new friend or two while we’re at it? I know many people who have had these sorts of online community get-togethers before, I’ve just never been part of one. So for me the experience was rather enlightening.

For me the night got off to an amusing start since I was the first one there. When I mentioned to the hostess that I was meeting some people she asked if I wanted to look around the joint for them. Uhhh…OK…Not that she’d have known this, but how do you go looking for someone you’ve never met? Didn’t take long though, because after a moment or two, the one face I recognized came walking in the pub.
For the two hours I was there, it felt like every fifteen minutes marked the arrival of yet another blogger. Lots of laughs, lots of arguments, at one point we were getting so raucous that I wondered aloud if we were disturbing the book club in the next room. On a side note – who schedules a book club meeting in a bar? I mean really, d’ya think they’ll serve you a plate of biscotti with your Stella?
I must apologize for not labeling these photos with the awesome peoples’ names, but to be entirely honest, I’m still working on learning them all. Promise I’ll have ’em down cold for the next meet-up, which from what I gathered, won’t have to wait until the next TIFF. Two names that I do want to mention though are Shannon and James. Thanks for setting this up folks, and thanks for inviting lil‘ old me.

  1. I’m so glad you came! It was a lot of fun to get to actually meet everyone and have people be at the same place at the same time. I hope it becomes a TIFF tradition!
