It’s Thanksgiving here in Canada, which means I’ll have three glorious days off spent eating too much food and running around the city visiting family.

I actually have a lot to be thankful for, though I don’t feel like making a laundry list for you right now. There will be a little bit of that expressed on the podcast on Monday, so please do tune in. For me, that’d be the closest I could get to having you sit down and break bread with me and mine. Actually, that is the one thing I’m thankful for that I’ll mention here and now.

Thank you for dropping by this website. I reckon this teeny space is more important to me than it is to anyone else out there, but anytime someone makes a point to visit for a few moments, it leaves me very grateful that they have even a passing interest in what I might have to say. So again – thanks!

Beyond visits with wallflowers and little animated dogs this weekend, my attention will squarely be on the baseball diamond. Today’s photo is from Camden Yards in Baltimore, because of all the teams playing in today’s one-game-knockout round, The Orioles are the only ones I want to see move on. There are a few other teams I’d like to see take the trophy in the end, but as usual I’m in “Anyone but The Yankees” mode.

But enough about sports, here’s what some of my friends are up to this week. Drop in on them and say hey, won’t you?

For your listening and reading fulfilment, I give you…

Ho. Lee. Shit! Outside the Envelope has Returned!!  (with two new episodes no less!!!)

The big release this week is TAKEN 2 – a movie I have zero interest in. By the looks of Sam’s review of the film, that estimation is a good one.

As you may or may not know by now, yesterday’s post about rewatching challenging films was inspired by this intriguing post by Jessica over at The Velvet Cafe.

You know that Matneecast discussion about exposing kids to horror inspired by John LaRue? Seems like John has gone and one-upped me.

A doc that I managed to missed out on is AI WEIWEI: NEVER SORRY. Dave at Blueprint has seen it (officially making me the last person not to have watched it) and really dug it.

Did you know that it’s International James Bond Day? In honour of 007, Darren takes a long hard look at one of the best Bond Baddies of all – Auric Goldfinger.

Mamasita Thuro brought her little’un to the movies again this week – this time for some three dimensional fish. How would young Mia fare this time around?

I don’t know about you, but I’m still not tired of talking about VERTIGO. Simon Columb gave it another look this week.

The Kid has taken a moment to consider a universal truth: When you gotta go, you gotta go.

For a tweet of the week, all I thought to myself when I read this post was “Guilty, your honour”:

Enjoy!

  1. Thanks for the link! It’s well worth a watch – not as mind-blowing or as exciting as some of the best recent docs, but it’s a fascinating look at a great artist/activist.

    1. You’re most welcome! I really do need to get my ass in gear and give it a look. It opened Hot Docs this year, but I didn’t get a chance to squeeze it into my slate.

  2. So I take it you didn’t have time to work on a blogathon post?

Anyway, I definitely know it’s James Bond day, there are planned festivities to commemorate the occasion 🙂

    1. Sorry Ruth – The week just got away from me. Given how late at night the last two posts were written, I’m sorta stunned they make any grammatical sense.

I’ll try to pull together a belated one for next week.
