“Does it come in black?”

The other night I tweeted about how my movie-watching might take a bit of a dive with my attention being diverted to The NBA Finals, but looking forward…that’s pretty much shot.

Next week for instance I have a cinematheque screening at The Lightbox, a ticket to catch the encore feed of Danny Boyle’s “Frankenstein” (with Johnny Lee Miller as The Monster this time), and all of it will lead up to BRAVE at week’s end. How is one supposed to watch Durant and LeBron amongst all of that?

On the upside, at least all of this added content will slow down my PROMETHEUS chatter. Be honest gang, you’re getting tired of me bringing it up on Twitter, aren’t you? Well it should trickle off soon enough – though it has been interesting to see it quickly climb up to become one of my most read reviews.

Anyway, The Thunder are inbounding, so I’ll cut this here. Have a good weekend y’all and make sure to check out some of the very cool stuff collected below.

For your listening and reading fulfillment, I give you…

It was a stellar week all around for podcasts, but much of it paled in comparison to an unexpected interview. Listen in as Sam Fragoso talks to a critic whose work I very much admire, Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune.

Update: I will never look at the lobby of a multiplex the same way again, thanks to this glorious post by Jessica at The Velvet Cafe.

The Sydney Film Festival is on right now, and three sites I follow are covering it. Check in with Sam McCosh, Andy Buckle, and Tom Clift for news on what’s doing down under.

With the Hollywood offerings handing us what basically amounts to a bye week, I have my sights set on SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED this weekend. Joe has seen it and says I’m in for good things!

In all of my pontificating for PROMETHEUS, a film that keeps coming to mind is BLADE RUNNER for the chilly reception it received upon release. That might not be good news for Alex Kittle, who wasn’t so fussed about it this week.

Corey Atad knows that kids can’t live on junk food alone, and wonders what it’d take for them to eat their vegetables…at least where movies are concerned.

Over at Reel Insight, Rachel is still trying to ween her daughter on to the moviegoing teet (too far?). Check out how things went this week with the critters of MADAGASCAR 3

For the tweet of the week, all I can say is that we all feel your pain James:

Enjoy!

  1. Thank you for your last minute inclusion Ryan!
I’m not tired of your Prometheus gushing! I think it’s refreshing to hear some real enthusiasm about it.

The thing is that I loved it and can share your praise for it, as well as I can agree with the criticism brought up against it. It’s as if the negatives still don’t affect my experience with the movie. Like when you pour water on a goose, as we say in Sweden. It doesn’t get wet.

    1. You’re most welcome Jessica – thanks again for writing it!

I remain enthusiastic about it, even one week later…it’s actually been amusing to sift through all of the detractions.

  2. Thanks for the link to Sam, Tom and myself Ryan. We have been working hard and seen many great films. Interestingly, we all came out of Hara-Kiri and read your tweet at the same. Tom has been staying at my place for the last few days.

    1. Hah – that’s awesome that you all got my tweet together! I haven’t been commenting too much over the last week, but I’ve been marking down a lot of what you’ve been seeing/liking. Hopefully I get to catch up with some of these titles over the summer.

By the way – if any of you didn’t like MONSIEUR LAZHAR, I would have had to stop following you.

      1. I’ll be sure to read your post. Oddly enough, when I watched it back in the winter, I didn’t write about it…wasn’t really sure if my readership was interested.

    1. Hopefully I’m able to enjoy my upcoming week, and don’t find myself dead on my feet by the weekend. If you want a clear indication on how I’m doing, be sure to tune into Matineecast 61 next week as it will be recorded on the tail end of all this nuttiness.
