Thoughts from your host…

My Saturday mornings on the balcony with my comic book have begun to feel chillier. My Sunday nights on the back porch of my childhood home too. Summer is ending, dear friends. The time of endless hours of fun is drawing to a close. We must all pack our things into the car, close the joint down for another season and go be grown-ups again.

It sounds sad, but really it’s a good thing. Autumn brings feelings of starting anew…like getting a jump on a new year before a new year actually begins.

Here on the show, we see summer out in subdued fashion. We are talking about a great selection to be sure, but if one were to listen to this show and compare it to the show that came before, one can hear the difference.

Two weeks ago, the party was still going strong…now it’s just a few of us in the kitchen…with softer music on the turntable, and entire legions of empties littering every surface. My guest on this episode was a perfect companion for the late summer chat, and I’m deeply grateful for his company.

I make mention of this on the show, but it bears repeating here:

I have had a blast in 2018 bringing on some of the warmest, smartest, most-engaging guests a podcaster could ever want. The sixteen episodes that make up this year’s feed are all ones I am deeply proud of, making the time and energy this show requires seem so very worthwhile. But it’s time for a short break. Not for long, just a teeny bit.

We’re calling this episode “The End of The Season” for The Matineecast, with no full episodes planned to drop again until at least the beginning of October. There will be a TIFF dispatch or three, but no full three-ring-circus until the leaves begin to change colour. September is always a push around this space, and it’s time I start pushing back.

So I hope you enjoy what you hear today. I hope you enjoy what you’ve heard this year. I truly hope your summer has been filled with joy and the stuff memories are made of. I sure as hell know mine has, and I’m deeply thankful for anytime you’ve plugged your earbuds in to let me talk about it.
