Withe the College Football Championship being handed down last night, and the NFL playoffs well underway, this one feels apropos.

This past summer, director Ivan Reitman was a hot topic around The Lightbox. There was an entire retrospective dedicated to his films (which brought STRIPES and GHOSTBUSTERS back to the big screen!), and long on-stage conversations with the massively influential comedic filmmaker.

Through it all though, I found myself wondering one thing: what happened to him?

The last film of his that really seemed to work was DAVE, and that was over twenty years ago. Since then, it feels as though his timing has been off (MY SUPER EX-GIRLFRIEND, anyone?).

This spring though, I’m filled with a renewed sense of hope. His next film seems as though it’s an NFL slant on MONEYBALL…but perhaps with a bit more sharpness than MONEYBALL managed to deliver.

  1. Love that you put up this trailer because I was telling a friend about this movie just this past weekend. Something about the premise intrigues me, though I’m as equally skeptical of this film as I am intrigued. If that makes sense. Either way, I’ll see it.

  2. I really get a JERRY MAGUIRE vibe from this movie…which is a good thing considering how much I love JERRY MAGUIRE.

Stem your skepticism – I vote we remain intrigued.
