Death and All of His Friends (HARRY POTTER & THE DEATHLY HALLOWS Teaser)

So while I found much of this past weekend’s MTV Movie awards to be a long exercise in publicity stunts and teen-voting nonsense…I was quite excited to get my first look at the Harry Potter teaser they premiered.

So allow me to spare you the trillion and one f-bombs, TWILIGHT love-fest, and half-assed Aguilera…and just get to the good stuff…

  1. I'm curious to see how this one will be handled. I've never read the books but it looks like this will be the first one where Hogwarts will have seized to exist as the main setting.

  2. Rather generic teaser I have to say. Not to mention the very LOTR first shot. Still I'm eagerly awaiting this one. So much to do, develop, and create I'm wondering if they can get it all in without it feeling forced. Since they've been hoping around, ignoring some of the setup pieces from the last few books for time reasons.

  3. you always have lovely little music references. I shall now, if I spot one, note the band name … like a little competition…

This post is a Coldplay song from Viva La Vida… (bloody good album)

  4. The trailer doesn't give much away and I fear Part 1 may not have enough going for it to make the film as good as we all hope it will be. The book is a good story, where they end Part 1 will be intersting.

  5. @ Thomas… Right you are. HALF-BLOOD PRINCE is the final story to primarily take place in Hogwarts. This final chapetr (which remember will be two films) will mostly take place outside the school.

@ Univarn… Slightly generic…but it did give a few glimpses of some big moments in the story.

@ Simon… If you ever have an afternoon to kill, I double-dare you to scroll back through old posts and see how many of the song titles you can catch without cheating.

Hint: Every post is named after a song…as is, of course, the blog itself.

@ Fitz… The fact that it needed to be split into two films leads me to believe that a lot of the book will make it to the screen.

@ Dan… I know where film one will leave off, but for the sake of spoiling I won't write it here.

One thing I was wide-eyed to see was Harry standing over that grave, since I wasn't sure if that moment would make it to the film.

  6. As I commented elsewhere, this series doesn't do much for me anymore. I haven't loved one since Goblet of Fire (which is my second favourite behind Chamber of Secrets). I haven't read the books so I don't go gaga for this series or anything but they have become so dark and lifeless and serious and self-important in their melodrama that its all just becoming more of the same for me. Radcliff needs to lighten up and this series needs to get back some of the magic from the first couple of films.

Also, ya, I'm always weary about splitting a film in half because usually what happenes is the first one is all built up and second is all payoff and neither of them work on their own. The one exception I can think of of one film beging hacked into two and actually working was Kill Bill.

  7. @ Mike… They sorta had to split this one in half because there are so many things that happen which close major stories built up through the last six books/movies. Woulda been criminal to have to leave some out.

The series gets darker and heavier as it goes along, so that might be one thing that you aren't liking so much. But I'm unclear – are you saying you didn't like HALF-BLOOD PRINCE…or that you didn't like both PHOENIX and HALF-BLOOD PRINCE?

I vote you give the books a read this summer…might be surprised how much you like them!
