After a week off to do some Oscar coverage, the regular features are returning to The matinee, including a double-dose of recapping the watching habits. The last two weeks had a heavy emphasis on the new material, and for the most part things just happened to fall that way as none of the queue was nabbed with any particular project in mind.

The one funny thing about many of the past two weeks’ choices is the fact that many of them were suggested to me by many fellow movie lovers, and in each case I really dug what I was given! (Extra special thanks must be given to Kai, who not only suggested TIMECRIMES, but was kind enough to send me a copy as a gift!).

The funniest thing about a pair of eight-film weeks? Each week could have been a niner, as Lady Hatter and I were thwarted from catching some classics at The Lightbox twice within the past fourteen days!

As for the two weeks at hand…

Screenings
MONSTER SQUAD – Had a feeling that I wasn’t going to enjoy it. That feeling was ultimately correct.
RANGO – Not at all what I expected.

Blu-Rays/DVD’s I’ve Never Seen
TIMECRIMES – Thanks Kai.
DON’T LOOK NOW – Thanks Kurt.
STARDUST -Thanks Steve.
TOPSY-TURVY – Thanks Lady Hatter.
BANDE A PARTE – Thanks Jandy.
BARRY LYNDON – By far my least favorite Kubrick, though there were some things that I dug about it.
WAKING SLEEPING BEAUTY – How I didn’t go on a 90’s Disney bender after this, I’ll never know.
A PROPHET – Not sure why it took me so long to catch up with this one. Definitely an epic!

Blu-Rays/DVD’s I’ve Watched Before
INGLORIOUS BASTERDS – For no real reason other than wanting to watch something new-ish
EMPIRE OF THE SUN – I got into a Spielberg conversation at work and felt like reaching for this lesser watched flick.
AMERICAN BEAUTY – While preparing cas del hatter for some Oscar night guests, I felt like watching a Best Picture.
CHICAGO – Ditto
A BEAUTIFUL MIND – Ditto
TOP GUN – I needed to press the reset button. In many ways this movie helps me do that.
