Thoughts From Your Host…

Y’know – I really could have gone back to the usual Matineecast this week.

Between PALM SPRINGS, FIRST COW, RELIC, GREYHOUND, and THE OLD GUARD, there was a lot of new releases going on-demand this week that I was excited and curious about. Hell, I can’t remember the last time three movies came out on the same day that I was interested in…let alone five. But here we are, with a rare abundance of cinematic riches

That doesn’t even factor in the arrival of HAMILTON last week!

After I got through HAMILTON last weekend, and PALM SPRINGS/FIRST COW this weekend, I had to admit that there was a lot to talk about and a full episode might have done us all some good!

However, I fear this little bright spot on the summer movie schedule will be an isolated occurrence. It’s not the new normal, it’s just a lovely aberration. In two weeks, we’d be right back to talking about the old stuff. So as tempting as it seemed to let go of the retrospective series for an episode or two, I figured I would keep on-point a while longer.

Isn’t that the big lesson that we’ve all been learning these last few weeks? That a momentary swing in our favour is no reason to abandon all of the plans and precautions we have taken? So here we are – ignoring the rush of five new releases for a six year old gem.

I hope to write some words on some/all of that group of five. However, where the audio component of this site is concerned, we remain in retrospect for the time being.
