Back in 2011, I caught a beautiful film at Toronto After Dark that had suffered an unfortunate fate. The film was LOVE – a new science fiction offering from director William Eubank. Its unfortunate fate was that it had been a labour of love for Eubanks for years, and in the time between the film’s conception and its release, it was usurped by Duncan Jones’ MOON. Both low-budget films revolved around one man being marooned on a space mission, and how each man handles that solitude. It wasn’t a question of which film was better, it was the fact that MOON got there first. Happily though, that wasn’t the end of the road for Eubank, and his sci-fi ambitions as just three years later he has returned with THE SIGNAL. If you watch this clip and have no clue what the film is about, well – that makes two of us. Gotta admit though – it sure does look pretty! I mean seriously – can I just earmark that image of the couple in the grass for this year’s “Hey Man, Nice Shot!” post right now?
