Every year in the wake of TIFF, I make mention of the following thought: I’m glad they can’t get ’em all and I’m glad I can’t see ’em all.

Let me explain…

When any prestige festival puts together its programme, there’s a bit of an unspoken pressure to big in as many of the sexiest titles as they can. Whatever point they are on the calendar, there is a want both for patrons and for programmers to bring in as many of the headlining acts as possible for the months to come.

Thing is, if a festival like TIFF were successful – if they’d landed…say…GONE GIRL and INHERENT VICE and BIRDMAN and INTERSTELLAR…then what would we have to look forward to for the next four months?

The slight check to bring balance is that even when dealing with what a festival like TIFF can bring in, one cannot see them all. So there are always titles left to catch-up with in the months to come.

So with that in mind, here’s a film I’m looking forward to seeing this winter as a fan of the director’s two prior films – and as a fan of both the lead actors involved…

  1. This look pretty delicious. I mean it’s not like I’m going to the movies on December 31st but I’m looking forward to seeing this next year.
