Once upon a time, director Michel Gondry captured my imagination like few others.
He seemed to delight in using every crayon in the box and created worlds and stories that were equally mature and whimsical. Unfortunately, over the last nine years, my relationship with Gondry has dwindled. What was once the warm fire I was drawn to is now just a pit of glowing embers. Heck, I even skipped THE WE & THE I – his entry into TIFF 2012 – after people whose taste I trust told me that it was walk-out-bad.
But perhaps Gondry is about to capture my imagination again with his newest film. Interestingly, as I look at the clip, it feels more like something Jean Pierre Jeunet would have created…but that’s not a bad thing either!

I love Michel Gondry and I do want to see this but I can’t bear to watch the trailer again due to that godawful Lumineers song. I really hate this new wave of folk music. Thank God for My Bloody Valentine. Their new album is amazing… review might come in about a few days to a week.

Do you hate the music or hate its overexposure?

Both.
