We’ve had a lot of fun here on the show this summer with multiple guests, breaking the format, taking the show outside, and even elbowing yours truly out of the way…but it’s time to get things back to normal. Thus as we enter the last legs of summer we get back to Matineecast Classic in all its glory

This is also the episode where I officially christen this new space of mine – which might indeed seem a bit redundant, but I wanted to be able to mark the occasion behind a mic. If you listen very closely, you might even be able to hear the audio of me blowing Duke’s mind.

Here’s the Roy Campanella episode…

  1. Despite knowing nothing of the Toronto garbage strike, I am highly intrigued by “This Movie’s Broken.” It sounds up my alley. And I like Broken Social Scene, too. I am on the case. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

    1. I know a few people who don’t care much for it – and think that the fictional addition doesn’t work – but at its base, its a wonderful concert film for BSS…a film that actually finally made me a fan of the band.

  2. You’ve never seen The Sandlot?! You’re killin’ me, Smalls!

Also, go back to Zombieland and appreciate Eisenberg’s Facebook line at the beginning. Poor guy can’t escape it.

    1. “Smalls”?? Is that some sort of Sandlot inside-joke or somethin? I’ll get to it. Pretty sure Lindsay was buying it from Amazon before that podcast even finished.

I do remember the Facebook line from ZOMBIELAND by the by. That, and the similar point made in EASY A are tidbits that I believe are way too true (even more so in the age of Twitter).

Thanks for listening Ray-Ray, what about fall movies you’re looking forward to

      1. Yes, that is indeed the BEST quote from The Sandlot, one I say frequently when I can’t believe someone did/said something stupid.

I’m almost stumped on fall films right now. There are several that I would dig for the cast, but not content (e.g. Moneyball, The Ides of March). Most I know very little about at this point, but for bigger name stuff, I’d say give me JoGo and Anna Kendrick in 50/50. Then there are a handful of indies that I won’t get to see till their dvd releases next year, most likely (e.g. Martha Marcy May Marlene).

  3. Yea a character from the Sandlot is named Small. You definitely need to check it out! It’s really more of a family movie than a baseball film.

Totally agree about 25th Hour, a really underrated movie IMO. Spike Lee is coming back with a bang with the Oldboy remake (if that ever gets off the ground)

    1. …And what do you think of the project I brought up within the span of the conversation? The one where he’s gonna check in on Mookie 20 years on?

(PS – Most anticipated fall film?)

  4. Most anticipated fall film: “The Artist” or “J.Edgar”

I love “The 25th Hour” … Lee has something to do with my post tomorrow actually 😀

  5. SEMI OT: When you record podcasts on TIFF or at resturants/bar what device do you use and are you using internal or external mic?

Haven’t listened through the episode due to 30 minutes or less spoilers.

    1. When I’m recording on-the-scene I actually use the Voice Memo app on my iPhone and use its on-board mic which is surprisingly good. The MaMo podcast does this too
