Pull up a chair, pass the stuffing and help yourself to some white meat – it’s Thanksgiving Day here in Canada. (And if I do say so – here in Toronto, it could not have been a lovlier weekend to be out and around. I can’t remember the last time so much time was spent on Thanksgiving sitting outside in shirtsleeves).

Behind my trusty microphone, Thanksgiving brings with it an annual tradition of sitting down with a guest and talking about what we’re thankful for. Off the hop, I can tell you that I’m thankful for a guest who was so eager to be on the show, and likewise I’m thankful to have seen such a wonderful film for the feature discussion.

But enough chit-chat…there’s movies to talk about and food to be eaten. So as I brace myself for a third family dinner in as many nights, join us at Casa McNeil for a warm and fuzzy edition of the show. Here’s what’s in store in the Jackie Robinson episode…

  1. I agree with you a little more lukewarm sense with the review of the film (yes the “touching” scenes are great). I love how Lady Hatter just shouts into the episode randomly :P.

    Great show man.

    1. Not only does she heckle, but did ya notice she’s started finding my podcast as a great time to unload the dishwasher? It’s a good thing she’s so pretty…

  2. As for your feedback question of the week, I would say these four are must see films:

GINGER SNAPS – Canadian + female leads + Werewolves = good time

THE VANISHING – I would highly recommend the original version, but the American remake is decent also.

[REC] – I need to see this as well. Enjoyed the American remake , Quarantine, though and I have heard that the original is outstanding.

Evil Dead 2 – Campy fun

      1. I actually tried to foist a whole bunch more on him, but he rightly pushed back and only took 4 (“[rec]”, the Japanese “Pulse” and, uh, what the hell else did I lend you?). I have to realize that not everyone loves to immerse themselves into horror films for an entire month…Actually, I think it’s pretty cool that Ryan is wading further into the horror waters – I know he’ll be open and honest with any reaction he has.

Do see “Suspiria” if you can though – it’s not my fave horror, but it’s such a gorgeous film, has great music, some really well done build up and really gives you an idea of the aesthetic of the Italians (as well as some of their issues – bad dialogue synching, etc.).

I’m still against your Exorcist plan, but I understand your point. Just don’t count it towards the number of movies you’ve seen this year though – otherwise I will protest! B-)

By the way, good show. Leora sounded terrific. She was also spot on about “Repo: A Genetic Opera” – it’s awful. I think I actually mentioned that on the last podcast I did with you (“Source Code”). Or maybe I just groaned when you mentioned the film.

        1. I don’t remember you mentioning it. I’d go back and check if that didn’t mean listening to my own voice.

The other film you loaned me was CAT PEOPLE, which is the only one I’ve watched so far. Nicely eerie, so I’m off to a good start!

  3. Catchin’ up on the show. “Simon – ha ha ha, so British!”. Yeah… I’m Irish. Without the accent. 😉

And is Lindsay washing up in the background? “get in the kicthen woman!”. So offensive.

I love the thanksgiving episode! Not that I celebrate here in England.

    Simon

    1. I’ll clarify your lineage to Leora next time I see her.

I laughed as I was editing this episode because Lindsay wasn’t doing dishes for all that long, but it sounds like she’s pulling every last piece of flatware in and out o the cupboard (doesn’t help that the kitchen is right next to the office).

Glad you dug the episode mate!
