Everyday People

Observations on a Friday Morning

Aside from a day or two here and there, it’s been pretty cool in town for the last few weeks. Right on cue, the humidity kicks in around Film Fest time. Kinda makes me think Mother Nature isn’t a Cinephile…I’m always intrigued by the range of wardrobe sported by TIFF patrons. By and large, the majority are relatively casual. Jeans, khakis, shirts with collars – the sort of outfit you’d wear to brunch. There’s another collection that are dressed much more casual -hooded sweatshirts, printed tees, cargo pants, caps – usually these are fans who are running around a lot and tend to start the day early and/or end late. It’s the third group that intrigues me – the ones that are dressed very formally. They aren’t in the movie…they aren’t part of the entourage…they’re in a ticketholder lineup just like lil’ old me. Are they going to a shindig after? Are they hoping Brad Pitt will see their sassy ensembles and invite them to chill? Are they someone important who has to join the rest of us in the horde for some unknown reason?

By the way, I am a big fan of the “big-shot” uniform of a blazer, dress shirt, jeans and nice shoes. I can do that – I can get up at 5:30am and still look like a producer.

Looking Forward
Got myself a tad mixed up. My tickets to CONTROL aren’t for tonight’s screening, they’re for tomorrow morning (good thing I figured that out in advance huh?). That left me with nothing to see today (the horror!), which I’ve promptly filled with tickets to THE ORPHANAGE at The Scotiabank Theatre. Check back tonight for reactions.

Can’t WAIT for Orphanage tonight! I overheard some guys who’d been at the press screening yesterday talking about how good it was!

  2. Very interesting observation there! I always wondered about those very formal folk too, I saw a ton of them tonight, mind you… it is Saturday night!
