chairs

No, I have no idea what’s up with the chairs either. Something tells me the east side of Toronto is quietly singing to itself about the songs of angry men.

Actually, I’m surprised that photo wasn’t snapped on the other side of the border. Seriously – to my American friends, how are y’all coping? This crazy situation you find yourself if (as I type at 9:55pm Thursday night) seems particularly insane and frustrating.

Funny thing about that? I know Canadians are an easy punchline with our multicoloured money, our politeness, our obsession with hockey and such…but at least we’ve never said “Fuck it – we’re shutting down”.

In other news I want to thank my readers for sticking with me these last few weeks. Keeping the site running has taken a bit more effort than usual stemming back to the middle of TIFF. Essentially, a weird series of glitches took hold of the joint, causing the site’s scheduling and tidiness to take a dive. Hopefully not too many of you noticed…obviously I noticed.

I think we have all the gremlins out of the machine, and I owe a large measure of thanks to Andrew Robinson for finding all of said gremlins. The man is a gentleman and a scholar, and I owe him big time.

In other news…

Great things in store over the coming weeks – great films playing and lots of face time coming up. How’re you?

For your listening and reading fulfillment, I give you…

This week, Mamo posted episode #324. It contains a high level of honesty, a level of honesty not normally put forward in these snarky times we live in. For my money? Best episode I’ve heard the gents lay down.

The bis release this week is GRAVITY. I’ll be hard-pressed to eclipse Brian J. Roan’s review of Cuaron’s latest offering.

Over at The Axis, Courtney wonders if turning a cold shoulder is a better alternative than spewing venom. (For my money: Yes)

Fandango takes an interesting approach to recapping the month of September. Check out his favorite still frames from the films he watched this past month.

As if my DVR wasn’t overworked enough these days, along comes Kristen with twelve films to watch out for on TCM. I wonder what Kristen thinks of Story of Film?

Now that Breaking Bad is over, have you ever wondered just what the body count was on that show? Nobody can spell that out for you better than The Droid and his mad infographic skillz.

.

Then there’s the Tweet of The Week, where Matt Singer sums up something I’ve been quietly asking myself for a month or so:

Enjoy!

  1. That’s America for you: the country that claims it has its shit together but doesn’t. (For fuck’s sake, there’s still debate over gun control and women’s rights.)
