As I map out my schedule for June, I’m beginning to think I’ve bitten off more than I can chew. While it’s shaping up to be a blast, knowing which way is up might be challenge within itself – no idea how well things will go trying to remember what I’m supposed to be writing when!

To top it all off, this morning I’m fighting a lovely little cold, so if it’s all the same to you, I’m going to take my leave here and hand the mic over to my fellow writers.

For your listening and reading fulfilment, I give you…

After a much-needed break, The Movies You Love Podcast returned this week. Andrew opens up a big ‘ol can of honesty in the show’s introduction and it’s worth listening to just for that. Once he gets through that bit, he has a fun little discussion with Kyle Turner about STRANGER THAN FICTION – a film which, if you ask me, is underrated.

For many months now, I’ve been on the fence about MALEFICENT. However, Lisa Thatcher might have just convinced me that I need to get out and give it a look.

This link might seem self-serving, but I feel like I didn’t give it a big enough plug when it happened. Over at The Droid (who it looks like I’ll finally be meeting in-the-flesh this summer!), I was asked to participate in his 10 Criterions series. Here’s what I chose and why, feel free to comment about why I’m wrong.

Any time a major moment of violence occurs in America, the media has a tendency to turn the conversation towards the role of pop culture in provoking the events (writer’s note: it’s always about more than what pop culture the perpetrators are consuming). This week at The Mezzanine, Noah Gittell breaks down why this question really shouldn’t apply this time around.

Perhaps one of the most introspective retellings of going to a special event turned up recently. Alex Withrow got to attend an event featuring M83 front man Anthony Gonzalez recently…and to hear him recount it is pretty darned inspiring.

If I were to make a top five of films from this new century list, then (500) DAYS OF SUMMER would be high on the board. This week, Elina took a moment to put together a post of twenty things she loves about the Marc Webb comedy.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again – I never tire of discovering new writers. They don’t even have to be new-on-the-scene…just new to me. It’s all about me, didn’t you know? This week, my discovery was Melissa over at Snap Crackle Watch. Check out her site, perhaps beginning with a post where she details how smitten she was with the season finale of Mad Men.

For the Tweet of The Week, Singer nails it…

  1. Thanks for the link, Ryan! I’m so glad to see Alex’s post being featured here, it was such a magnificent read.

    1. Any time – good to see you continuing to write. Every now and then I worry that we’re going to lose you to the business of your far more fun day-to-day.
