No, it’s not Friday. I have a few posts currently swimming around in my head, but nothing that I can hammer out at this late hour. Instead, I’ve decided to take an early hack at the weekly round-up of what has caught my eye.

The last day or two has had me mapping out several things for The Matineecast. While I’m not exactly out of ammo where guests are concerned, I am always shuffling things around. That said, I realize that some of the names I have in mind to come and do guest spots are people who likely aren’t all that fussed to do so, and in the meantime there are people out there who want to join me that I haven’t even thought of.

So while I make no promises, I thought I’d open the floor to gauge interest: If you want to be a future guest on the Matineecast, please let me know and I’ll keep you in mind.

But enough about me, there’s lots of awesomeness afoot in the blogosphere.

For your listening and reading fulfillment, I give you…

I find myself rather apologetic as I notice that it’s been over four months since I properly plugged Reel Insight. Is that any way to treat one’s friends? The ladies talk Oscar – a pretty fun talk about Oscar too…even if I disagree with them on a lot of points.

With Sundance wrapping up, Vance has some reflections on his changing perspective of the festival.

I was rather happy with the crop of entries I got for The Blind Spot Series on Tuesday (and if you’d like to participate, just double-up in January). One film that is one two or three participants’ lists – including my own – is LA DOLCE VITA. According to the Void, we’re all in for a treat.

Seems as though we weren’t quite done with the year-end top ten lists – Fitz has one more for us.

French Toast Sunday wants to spare you some bad winter cinema, and instead offers you some solid stay-at-home alternatives.

A low-profile film that has stuck with me ever since TIFF is Paddy Considine’s directorial debut, TYRANNOSAUR. Jessica has a well spoken wrap-up of the indie gem.

Finally, the Tweet of The Week comes from someone who won’t be browbeaten into disliking WAR HORSE…

  1. I’m delighted to hear that you too loved Tyrannosaur. It gives me more strength in my discussion with Corey @ Just Atad, who for some strange reason has decided to hate it.

It’s definitely one of the most memorable films of 2011 as far as I’m concerned, not the least thanks to the splendid acting performances.

  2. Thanks for the mention, Hatter. I would have put it up sooner, but I had to get around Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and A Dangerous Method.

    1. You’re quite welcome sir. I know the feeling as I had to sprint to watch a film before my year-end podcast which Simon wanted to record earlier than I’d anticipated.

    1. Don’t I know it! You’re quite welcome – looking forward to the McAdams discussion. Word is she loves seeing movies at Lightbox but (sadly) I’ve never run into her there.

  3. La Dolce Vita is quite seriously my favorite film of all time (as noted like a million times on the blog: http://bit.ly/wzSoAn) and also probably what I’d choose for “best” film of all time most days of the week. As someone who’s watched it roughly twice a year since I was 18 (no joke), I’ll be looking forward to seeing how it ranks from all y’all.

    1. With three of us locally having it on our Blind Spot list, so we might have to organize a get-together when time comes to actually watch it. Very much looking forward to it!

I’ll be sure to send you a link to my post when I do get to seeing it!
