Target Field Wind Wall

The spectre of TIFF is looming large over my comings and goings these days. Happily, with my schedule drawn up I am free to think about other things, such as playing tour guide for all my friends coming into town (some of them linked below!).

I’m also looking forward to getting things back on-schedule around here.

You see with the blog-a-versary this week, and a review forthcoming for THE WORLD’S END tomorrow, things are a bit higglety-pigglety at The Matinee this week. That should sort itself out next week with the next Blind Spot, a Matineecast, and even one more Freeze Frame post before the festival begins!

Something tells me I should make every effort to soak up some R&R before the bedlam begins in a brief ten days. Something also tells me that I’m not going to heed my own advice…

For your listening and reading fulfilment, I give you…

Monday morning, I took the subway in to work accompanied by the sounds of GMan and Dor Dotson discussing HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. I need more days that start like that.

D’ya know how I know my friend Alex is wicked-talented? She’ll create posters for movies I’ve never even heard of, and I still want to buy them.

Is it weird that I’m disappointed by the bad reviews coming back against LOVELACE? I don’t know what part of me wanted to hear that the film was good (and likewise give it a look), but somehow this feels like a missed opportunity. Wilde Dash is the latest critic to vote “nay”.

I’ve long been fascinated by a somewhat recent resurgence of The Douchebag Complex. Down at An Online Universe, Chris Elena examines the trend in recent films.

Up in Row Three, Andrew wonders just how relevant Woody Allen is…a fair question, all things considered.

Movie Mezzanine has a fantastic piece about RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK expresses so many things I feel about the film but cannot articulate.

I was truly saddened this week at the news of Elmore Leonard’s passing. Nick Prigge eulogizes the literary genius thusly.

Finally, for The Tweet of The Week, Matthew Price arrives with some sage advice…

Enjoy!

    1. I have eight shifts to go until vacation starts. Can we make time move faster?

PS – I sorta want to start an action movie podcast/blog named “There Are Doves”
