post

I’m a little bit busy going through TIFF titles this morning and trying to formulate a long list. There’s still one programme to be announced, but I’m looking to get a jump on the endless decision-making when the schedule gets handed down next Tuesday morning.

I had a great time last year, like I always do, but I feel like my best stuff was very back-end-loaded. Here’s hoping I can find a bit more balance this time around.

So talk amongst yourselves while I comb through descriptions.

For your listening and reading fulfilment, I give you…

The Mamo boys went on an interesting tangent for one of their patented “Shows about Nothing” this week. Give a listen while I try to figure out how I can ever be this good on-mic.

I’m always a sucker for posts written straight from the heart. This week, nothing was more heartfelt than this post at The Velvet Cafe, where Jessica chronicles the changing landscape of her family. Give it a read and prepare to be moved.

There are few things I’m more obsessed with than Breaking Bad these days. As it hurdles towards its conclusion at a breakneck pace, I constantly find myself wondering how badly this whole situation will end for everybody surrounding Walter White – and I grow more worried by the day. This week, Catherine the Cinema Enthusiast launched her series of video recaps on the series – and she has some very interesting things to say. Give a watch!

The film I’m most looking forward to – on a weekend where there is a lot to look forward to – is IN A WORLD… Judging by the solid review it got over at Go-See-Talk I have good reason to be enthused!

Right after IN A WORLD… the other film I’m most anxious to see is THE SPECTACULAR NOW. Down in Chi-Town, Nick has already seen it and files this review.

Over at Reel Talk, Candice wonders whether we are looking for too much depth in our blockbusters and punishing them when they don’t provide it.

What would you do if you could only watch one film every month? Might you choose a film that is most suited to what’s going on during that time of the year? Andy Hart thinks it could be fun and did up a neat post of twelve films, one for every month of the year.

For the Tweet of The Week, I turn to Kurt Halfyard. You have to admire filmgoing tenacity like this:

Enjoy!

  1. Thanks, man! You’ve been so generous with the links lately! Can’t wait to read your thoughts on “The Spectacular Now.” I’m really curious how others read that last act.

    1. Looks like I’ll be catching up with SPECTACULAR this week. THE WORLD’S END is taking presidence at the moment, but I’m really anxious to see what many I know have been talking about.

By the by – I’ll be emailing you about this soon, but I’m hoping you might be able to sit down for a Matineecast after TIFF.
