The long weekend is upon us dear friends, and it promises to be a busy one for yours truly. Besides the regular weekend goings-on, I’ll be picking up my TIFF tickets, meeting up with a friend or two, recording two podcasts (one of which is my own) and trying to get a bit of rest in after a crazy week.

Speaking of that podcast – last chance to come talk to me. What Autumn 2011 film(s) are you most looking forward to?

As I aluded to in the excerpt for this post, the “Everybody’s Talkin” feature will be going on hiatus for two weeks until TIFF is over – but as the festival goes on, I’ll be sure to link to a lot of my co-horts who are in and around town. So even if the links aren’t collected in one place, they’ll keep on coming…don’t you worry.

For now though, it’s time to turn the mic over to my friends. For your listening and reading fulfillment, I give you…

After a week away, the boys from The Row Three Cinecast return…and of course, get into a passionate argument.

Finally got to meet a dude I’ve heard much about over the years. Corey Atad made it out to the pub this week, and pushed me towards his swell new site JustATad. Give a gander as he weighs in on the George Lucas debacle. (Now if only I could get on his blogroll).

Stevee has spruced up Cinematic Paradox, and taken some time to give some thoughts on one of the most polarizing films of the year – THE TREE OF LIFE.

A new site I’ve started reading – and they have local contributors! – is Next Projection. This week, with the fall film festivals kicking off, they have launched their Projection: Oscar column.

Simon Columb talks up a film that Reel Insight were good enough to reward me with for doing so well in their podcast trivia game – Charlie Chaplin’s MODERN TIMES.

Rich wonders if we’ve started brow-beating with prestige films.

Finally, Jake goes for honorary Toronto citizenship with the Tweet of the Week…

FACT: @FinalGirlProj is so beneficial to the wellness of Toronto that the Ford brothers want to shut her down. #FFless than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

  1. Thanks for the linkage.

Question about TIFF and festivals in general: when you go to a screening, do they reserve seating for the press or is it first come first serve like anyplace else?

    1. A: For TIFF I’m not press (not big enough)

B: No. Some seats are reserved for people involved with making the movie, but everything else is up for grabs, and the line tends to start an hour before the show.

  2. Thanks for the linkage! regarding your question, the big one is TINTIN! It needs more love and all you cross-atlantic folks need to big it up more. The LAMBcast ran down its winter films and every blogger not only failed to mention TINTIN but ignored WAR HORSE too! lookin’ forward to the TIFF coverage!

    1. You are totally right. I have some serious doubts about War Horse. It looks like it could go overboard in the mainstream sentimentalism. Still, it’s Spielberg doing an epic war film based on an acclaimed book that also spawned the play that swept the Tonys this year. That’s a must see.

And Tintin? I FREAKIN’ LOVE TINTIN! The fact that this one is ALSO a Spielberg movie? Well, that’s just icing on the cake. Mo-cap is really the only area of concern here, and judging by the longer trailer there really isn’t anything at all to worry about. It looks like so much fun. Considering the director, and that Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish and Steven Moffat did the script, it is at the top of my list of Fall/Winter releases.

  3. Thanks for the link!
Have fun at the TIFF. Can’t wait for the coverage!
As for Autumn films…well, it will be Spring, here. We’re finally getting MIDNIGHT IN PARIS next month, so I’m really looking forward to that. Otherwise, there isn’t really anything that great-looking coming out here until December. Which is a shame.

  4. I know it’s kind of too late to praise the new The Matinee but I haven’t been around when you created this website. Man, it’s awesome! And looks so professional. I hope you are getting invitations for screenings already and if not, soon you will.
