Anyone else on their third day in a row of turkey sandwiches for lunch? Really…just me??

Thought I’d take a moment this morning and offer a bit of an apology. You see, I used to do everything I could to spur the community and the conversation by way of heavy commenting. Well at the moment my workdays have taken a turn for the hectic, so stealing five minutes here and there to comment isn’t an option. Come the evening, where in the past I’d do some heavy reading/commenting, things are busy as can be with a suddenly jumping social life, and keeping up this space of my own.

Where I’m going with all of this is to say to my fellow bloggers that I might not be offering my two cents the way I used to, but believe me when I say that I am still keeping up with all of what you intelligent folks are writing. Keep it coming, and hopefully sometime soon I can get my routine figured out…and can get back to my chirps from the peanut gallery.

For your listening and reading fulfillment, I give you…

There’s a new episode of CriticalMassCast – all of whom are back within my city’s limits! This was great to hear as a fan since I look forward to arguing movies with Greg Ashman face-to-face.

On the surface, it would appear as though The Velvet Cafe just wrote a dvd review of ANIMAL KINGDOM. But as you read her train of thought, she brings up some thoughts I’ve had myself about wondering why intelligent offerings don’t get a bigger push.

Rich lets his train of thought run from his reactions to watching IDES OF MARCH to his memories of watching Barack Obama on the campaign trail.

Univarn is branching out! Amoung his many reasons for doing so, is to keep his passion for writing kindled. I cannot help but tip my cap to such want to keep the creative output coming. Now what will his “non-movie” posts consist of?

Back to the theme of comments for a moment, one of the most frequent commenters around these parts nowadays is Fitz. I don’t talk about TV much on this space, but one show I love dearly – a show that is giving Mad Men a challenge for the useless title of “Ryan’s Favorite Show” – is Breaking Bad. After the season four finale on Sunday night, Colin had this little wrap-up.

As THE TREE OF LIFE hits blu-ray, argument can begin anew whether it is profound or self-indulgent. Someone who differs vastly from my experience with the film – but differs in a rather eloquent way – is the one and only Matthew Brown.

Finally for the Tweet of The Week, there’s this bit of cheek from Cinematic Method:

Enjoy!

  1. Thank you for the link love!
Actually I’ve got a bit more to say about the issue of how to make more people watch good movies. Who’s responsability is it? Watch out for my incoming ramblings.

    1. I did a post about a similar line of thinking back during the summer…wondering why people were complaining about what was playing in theatres despite better options being out there.

Can’t wait to read your next post on the subject.

  2. That tweet is hilarious.

Thanks for the link, Hatter. I think that this season’s finale may have been the best episode I’ve ever seen. Breaking Bad has been my favorite show for the last four years (even over Mad Men).

    1. It’s difficult to compare the two shows since they are so radically different. If you put a gun to my head and made me choose between ’em, you might be scraping my brains off the wall.

One thing I must give Breaking credit for is its patience. Remember the flak it was getting in the early part of this season for the plot moving slowly? They sure made people forget about that, eh?

  3. I’ll admit, your comment on my blog was a surprise, but a welcome one, since I hadn’t heard from you in awhile. Good to know you’re still reading me.

  4. Thanks for the link to Matt’s piece on Tree Of Life. I never got a chance to see it a second time in theatres, so I’m looking froward to the BluRay experience. Though I would say I love the film (the “endless summer” sequences are alone enough to do that), I can’t quite get to the LOVE that some others feel. It’s partially due to some of Matt’s criticisms, but mostly due to not connecting at all with the grown up boy and the ending of the film. While I wholeheartedly agree with Matt’s point about where true awe really resides, I don’t think the film completely sides with the religious – I felt it was indeed “spiritual”, but not necessarily pointing towards any specific guidance for that spirit. I do need to watch again though and will keep Matt’s post in mind…

    1. Interesting point good sir. I too wasn’t able to rewatch it in the theatre, but have a shiny new blu-ray copy waiting at home to be given the once-over…

I also promised myself after seeing it that I wouldn’t argue with anyone who didn’t like it…wouldn’t even tell them to watch it again!

  5. Muhahaha linkage again! It’s been so long I can’t even remember the last time someone linked to me. *Sniff sniff* You like me, you really like me (back off Sally Fields, I’m taking over now!)

    1. Has it been that long? Damn, sorry dude. I do try to spread the love around but forget sometimes that I’m spreading the love a little thin.

      Keep the good stuff coming.

    1. I grew up on STAR WARS, and wore out our VHS copies of HOPE and EMPIRE. I’ve always been a fan of the original trilogy, and even like a lot of things about the prequels.

I certainly count myself as a fan, but do not live and die with the films the way many do.
