Thoughts from your host…

First things first – after one hundred episodes or so with The White Stripes announcing the charge, the third century of Matineecasts begins with The National announcing their arrival. I do so enjoy the wonderful places my brain takes me while sitting in a pitch black cinema watching a bright screen, so a mantra like “the system only dreams in total darkness” seems apt right now.

Likewise, this episode finds me grateful both that this guest drifted into my orbit and that she recommended a freaky film that will likely go down as one of the very best movies I’ve seen in the year’s first half. Sometimes the search for films and guests takes a whole lot of doing, other times it falls right into my lap.

The editing of this show is deliberately loose, largely because the conversation very much reflected what it’s like to speak with Carolyn without agenda. So while things might seem a tad more rustic than usual for The Matineecast, I wanted to get closer to the genuine article for once.

Enough perfecting the miniature. Sit down, slip on the headphones, and please throw this on the fire for me…
