Thoughts from your host…

It’s strange to be publishing a podcast about an awards show while I watch another awards show. If I start name-checking Cardi B, please forgive me.

This year’s class of Oscar nominees comes with a lot of stories, and a lot of angles to consider. There are narratives that involve individual careers and an industry in-flux. There are small things to consider about big films, and big things to consider about small films. As usual, there’s not nearly enough time to get to it all…but in just under two hours, we sure do try!

Many of the categories we discuss are something of a fait accompli, which os why Marya and I are far more interested in who got named – and occasionally, who didn’t – than who wins.

Enjoy!

  1. The Oscar omission that I’m most surprised by is no Best Foreign Film (or Best Actress) nomination for In the Fade, which I saw and loved mere days before the nominations were announced, spurred on by the film’s Golden Globe win.
