Five years ago this week, I plugged in my mic and started this podcast. Considering that I wasn’t sure I’d be able to make a go of it for five months, let alone five years…I’m pretty damned chuffed today.

So chuffed that I won’t let the difficulties I had in getting this episode online get me down!

So while the chapter markers of this feed are gone temporarily, I do hope you’ll enjoy the discussion folks – I even managed to get a talk with Halfyard in at less than 90 minutes!

Here’s what’s in store in episode one-hundred-and-twenty-five…

  1. I love Calvin Candie but I’m specifically talking about how DiCaprio goes full slapstick in Wolf of Wall Street and I laughed waaaayyyyyy more in that.

For Christmas I want Birdman to release here. I *know* it won’t happen but I still want it, damnit! It seems like such a disservice to it to watch it on my laptop screen. From what I understand, it needs to be seen on a huge ass screen. Gahhhhhhhhh.
Also I want Rosamund Pike and Xavier Dolan to win the Oscars for Gone Girl and Mommy respectively. A few nominations here and there for Obvious Child and The Babadook will be much appreciated too.

I don’t know when I’ll watch Foxcatcher but I’ll definitely comment when I do.

Also slow claps for using “What Does The Fox Say?” :’)

  2. I’m mostly with Kurt on this one. This movie is almost unwatchable except for Mark Ruffalo. Thank God he’s on screen for almost the entire final 30 minutes.

But I don’t know how you could miss the frosted tips and the homoerotic sequence between Mark and du Pont. It’s clearly there and uncomfortable to see how du Pont has transformed Mark into something he clearly isn’t.

But I too thought maybe that was Maggie Smith while watching – though I knew it wasn’t, I thought maybe she had aged backwards a little or there was some crazy makeup going on or something.

But yeah, this movie has all of these little nuggets about friendship, mentorship, mommy issues, sport competition, family, etc. But it says these things quickly and then throws up its hands and the audience just goes, “OK, I get it. Now what?” And the movie doesn’t do the ‘now what’ part.

  3. We don’t get this until the new year, I was really looking forward to it, I think you have tempered that a little!

What I want for Christmas. I want American Sniper to be a great film. We have had some really good Clint Eastwood films, but it has been ten years since his last truly great one.
