It’s been a rough few months for this humble podcaster.

I could offer you a blow-by-blow account of how both the conversation and the way I share it with you went sideways, but I fear that would bore you immensely. What I will say is that I have missed doing this. Dropping two full episodes over two months was not what I intended when I mapped out “The One Twenties” of The Matineecast. I have missed the discussion with my friends, missed the interaction with my meagre listenership, heck – I’ve even missed the mechanics involved with producing this whole caper! (Most podcasters will tell you, that’s actually the part one misses the least).

By now, you’re probably asking yourself “why?”…after all, it’s not like I get paid for this.

Part of me believes I missed it because after all this time, it’s become a part of my identity. People who have never met me face-to-face (like today’s guest), still find a strange familiarity in the sound of my voice. It’s a very personal way of connecting with you fine folks, and not one that I take lightly. So knowing I’d forsaken that connection so much these last several weeks, I found myself feeling off…like I’d lost my voice.

I guess what I’m saying is, it’s good to be back. It’s good to have new hardware to work with, new films to talk about, and a schedule that allows me to make it all happen.

Hopefully, my tardiness hasn’t cost me any more of that connection!

  1. I enjoyed the episode as always, but miss, the other side. look forward to its return next time around.

I think the line was said twice. I saw the trailer so many times it surprised me, great line none the less.

I disagree on the lack of consequences. If there were any consequences for Louis it would have taken all the power from the story. It would have been a story as you would have seen in during the time of the production code. As it is, I walked out angry that he got away with it.

Glad you mentioned Rene Russo, its fantastic to see her back, I can’t remember her having a really good part since The Thomas Crown Affair.

By the way the car is a Dodge Challenger.

My first experience of big films from big directors like David Lean and John Ford were always on TV. One film that stands out is Gravity, this was helped by seeing in IMAX.

  2. You asked for the biggest movies we’ve seen in terms of screen size.
For me it’s Jack the Giant Slayer. The movie is really mediocre, but the experience was breathtaking. I watched it in a theatre called AMC Loews at Lincon Square in NYC. It’s a gigantic IMAX theatre, one of the largest in US as far as I get it. It made you feel is if you’d entered the spaceship Rama. It was a shame that they showed such a bad movie when we were there, but I still enjoyed it immensly thanks to the size. And I’m SO envious of everyone who lives in a city with a proper IMAX theatre who gets the chance to see movies such as Gravity and Interstellar in this format. In Sweden we don’t have any theatres with screens of this size, sadly. The closest place where we can experience it is in London.
