Frankenweenie

There was a lot of podcast prep this week, along with the last little bit of Hot Docs fallout. Those two habits combined led to a lot of re-watching.

I do, of course, want to put the onus on watching new films for the first time instead of re-watching the old stuff. There are so many titles to get to, that spending hour after hour retracing my steps can seem like a waste of time. However, besides the homework, there is something to be said for feasting on comfort food for a stretch now and then. It allows our brains to relax a bit, and enjoy the material on another level.

Actually, in some instances, these repeat viewings work on a whole other level. In the case of LOOPER and THE MASTER, I don’t know them backwards and forwards just yet because I haven’t seen them that many times. In the case of something like DEMOLITION MAN, it had been so long since my first viewing of it, that it might as well have been the first glimpse.

do expect that next week will bring a few more first-timers, but for now, come with me down memory lane.

Here’s The Week at Hand…

How’s about you – seen anything good?

9 Replies to “Days of The Week (Films Watched May 10 – May 17)

  1. Your The Social Network comment makes me happy.

Firsts: Eraserhead– Crazy Nikhat Month is go! Though with a start like this, it’s going to be a slow month. God, this had the most disgusting ending I have ever seen.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes– It was cute.
Dogtooth– Another crazy flick, though I liked this one so much more.
Anatomy of a Murder– Rather fantastic. I think Jimmy Stewart is my favourite classic actor.
Star Trek Into Darkness– I need to rewatch this. I do not like my reaction to it.
The Great Gatsby– Will elaborate in the next episode of ATUP.

Rewatched: Dil Se– For Mette. It *is* really good.

    1. The first time I saw SOCIAL, it left me a little bit cold. I feel that less and less every time.

I always joke that “Is Anybody Here for Love?” in GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES is probably the gayest scene I’ve ever watched.

      1. The male objectification totally caught me off guard. I mean, flesh-coloured swimming trunks! I loved it of course 😛

  2. First-Timers: The Great Gatsby, Iron Man 3, Japon, Secret Sunshine, Z, and Police, Adjective.

Re-Watches: Don Juan DeMarco, The Patriot, Wings of Desire, and Virtuosity.

  3. MUD: Mark Twain-tastic, a little slow in the middle though
    FEMME FATALE: underrated De Palma
STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS: Enjoyed more than the first
THE MANOR: Solid doc, some content seemed a little fishy
CLOSE-UP: Fascinating, not the masterpiece I expected but great
    LA HAINE: Amazing 90s dystopia
THE GREAT GATSBY: An utter disaster from start to finish

  4. From a giant list to a very small list. Such is life. I don’t expect to see another 75% re-watch week for awhile! Very unusual for me.

    First time:
    Sansho the Bailiff – incredible.

    Re-Watched:
    Supergirl
    The Big Boss
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
