Sils Maria

Life is slowly getting back to normal, but this time of year is as busy as you’d expect. As a result, plans seem to be getting scattered to the wind. On the up side, I finally caught up with highly-anticipated 2016 releases like LOVING and LION. On the down side, I didn’t get around to my #52FilmsByWomen selection this week, but I can report that I am watching it as I type…so I should be on-track again by Monday night.

What was that thing John Lennon said about life and other plans?

JOkes aside, as I catch-up on a lot of the final films of the year and try to get back into the swing of writing about it all, I must admit that despite several doubts over what 2016 was giving us at the multiplexes…theatrically, this has turned into quite the year!

More on that in the days ahead.

Here’s the week at hand…

Screenings
LION – A mighty film (pardon the pun). More on this tomorrow.

Streaming/Blu-Rays/DVD’s I’ve Never Seen
SONG OF THE SEA – Anything this studio creates from now on, I’ll be seeing.
CALVARY – Watched the same day as SONG, making it a very Irish afternoon!
HIDDEN FIGURES – Stellar performances by all three women in this one.
LOVING – Similar themes to FIGURES but a very different approach. Somewhere in-between them is a happy medium.
A MONSTER CALLS – Wonderful story; dodgy execution.
Streaming/Blu-Rays/DVD’s I’ve Seen Before
THE GRADUATE –
LOVE ACTUALLY – The Christmas watching begins…
DIE HARD – …The Christmas watching continues!
